The best coaches want to work for the best AD’s and they do not want to work for a former Secretary to the Board of Trustees. So, I say this to Michigan State Administrators: if you want to be a Champion, then you have to act like a Champion, and for the better part of 5 decades Michigan State have conducted their football business like a program content to be in the middle of the pack: That has to stop.

I have great respect for the President, the AD and the Board of Trustees as administrators, but collectively they are inexperienced and largely ill equipped to conduct a search for a Head Football Coach, especially identifying and hiring a Football Coach capable of taking Spartan Football to the next level.

It’s better to close the book and step down with one’s integrity intact and one’s head held high…and Mark Dantonio can do that. And now we look to Michigan State President, Samuel Stanley, AD, Bill Beekman and Mark Dantonio to write the next Championship Chapter. The late John Hannah and Biggie Munn will be watching.

History tells us that 5 losses max is the magic number to win a regular season Big Ten Championship and so with 11 games remaining, the Spartans need to win at least 8 of their final 11 games (72%) to stay within the 5 loss threshold and put themselves in a fortuitous position to hang another regular season Championship. Very doable.

Coach D got his raise and his Bonus. What will the fans get in return? When his team compiles a dismal Big Ten record of 17-19 over the past 4 years, they no longer enjoy the luxury of silence. So, the President, the AD and the Head Football Coach better craft a plan to correct course…and inform their constituents, and  fast!

LSU beat Clemson last night to win the National Championship, and the prolific Offenses on display from both teams underscores just how far Michigan State has fallen and “just how far” the Spartans are from Championship contention.

Given Michigan’s Defensive melt down in Big Games, including 118 points yielded to Ohio State in two games over two seasons (62 points in 2018 and 56 points in 2019), it seems like Harbaugh should fix his Defense and find a replacement for Defensive Coordinator, Don Brown. But he didn’t and that is “why” Jim Harbaugh is a $49 Million bust.

Spartan fans can savor a season ending bowl victory for the time being and await to see if Mark Dantonio has a plan to correct course. One thing is certain: the President, the AD and the Head Coach need to be mindful that a Big Ten record of 4-5 and a 6 point victory vs Wake Forest will not sooth the soul of Spartan partisans.

Tomorrow’s bowl game is a pivot point. Mark Dantonio is determined to rebuild the program and he has chosen to “stay the course” as it relates to scheme and staff, so a bowl victory vs Wake Forest would instill major optimism amongst Spartan faithful that perhaps Mark Dantonio can correct course.
